How to Prepare Your Hat Designs for Manufacturing: Artwork Guidelines
Proper artwork preparation can save weeks of back-and-forth with your manufacturer. Follow these guidelines.
1. File Formats
Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) are preferred for logos and embroidery designs. They can be scaled infinitely without losing quality. For photo-quality prints, use high-resolution PNG or PSD (300 DPI minimum).
2. Color Matching
Provide Pantone color codes for exact matching. CMYK values can vary between screens. Pantone ensures consistency across production batches.
3. Embroidery Considerations
Small text and fine details may not translate well to embroidery. Minimum text size: 5mm height. Minimum line thickness: 1mm. Discuss with your manufacturer before finalizing.
4. Print Area and Placement
Standard front panel print area for baseball caps is approximately 10cm x 5cm. For beanies, embroidery is typically on the cuff fold. Confirm exact dimensions with your manufacturer.
5. Common Mistakes
Avoid: low-resolution images, copyrighted material, designs that are too complex for the chosen technique, and not providing Pantone codes.
